Challenging Authority... Jay's Stories

It was 2008. If you don't know, there was a major flood through the Midwest. I live in Saint Louis, Mo. During this flood, I was at work. Little did I know, my apartment was being consumed by water. Managing a gas station at this point in time. Looking out the window, I notice that the water has come up to my car door.. I leave my co-worker in charge, and rush home..

The county is a mess.. Roads are blocked, the water is up to my car window. Worrying that my vehicle might fry, but it gets me to my complex.. I contact my supervisor to notify him that I left work and why.. I can't get into the complex because the water level is higher than the bridge entrance. So I wait several hours till the water goes down.

Now, my mother lives in the same complex.. She told me over the phone what was going on, but she tends to exaggerate. I didn't expect what I discovered. As I come to my apartment, the first thing I notice is my sofa floating in the window. I'm still waiting for the water to get lower so I can get to the door.

I finally get to the door and open it.. Out rushes knee-high water with DVDs and a bunch of other belongings. I start running around grabbing things as fast as I can. Finally came to the realization that everything was ruined. So I go in and pack what I can into my car. (03 Grand Am) I tell the property manager to send me my security deposit, and I left.

Now homeless, I contact my brother and sister and asked to stay with them.. They allow it. It came as a blessing. I had 1 year and a half left on my car loan. I was able to pay it off in 2 months.. Something else happened. President Bush had done something useful. He declared the flood in the Midwest a natural disaster. This allowed FEMA to step in and provide financial aid to people like me who were affected by the flood.

I was able to purchase a truck with the money I received. (Didn't have enough cash to make it legal) -Soon you will know the reason behind the title of this story (^_O)- Back to the 03 Grand Am. When I paid it off, it felt like a huge weight was being lifted. The only real debt that I had was gone, and taught me a valuable lesson about borrowing from banks. I forgot to mention, my car was totalled the same week I paid it off. (Was strange, I know 2 other people who experienced the same thing that year. Talk about coincidence, or maybe conspiracy)

I paid my car off on a Tuesday, and that Friday I was in an accident. I was a stop light behind this small little car. And this lady slammed into me from behind and threw me into the car in-front of me. The lady at my front had a small scratch on her bumper. My car was smashed in on the front and back. I called the police.. (I had no insurance)

Don't wanna make this a racial situation but it sure felt like it.. The lady at the front was a young white female. Me and the lady that hit me are black. The officer that arrives on the scene it a middle-age white male. He completely ignores me (who made the call) and comes to the white lady's aid. Asking her if she's alright, but not for identification or information.

I was sure he'd give me the same attention since my car had the most damage. But he approaches me and ask for license, registration and insurance. I hand him my license and tell him there is nothing else in my car. Seeing whats going on, I go to the lady that hit me and try to get her information. She tells me she left her purse at home and she doesn't even provide a name.

At this point, I'm starting to lose my patience. The officer takes her information. He then approaches me and gives me a ticket for driving with no insurance. ($500) I'm very upset at this point. So I try harder to get the information from this lady. I look over and see a tow-truck pulling up to my car. I run over to the tow guy and tell him not to touch my car. He gets offended and tells the officer what I said.

The officer then screams at me, "If your car is drivable, you need to leave". Trying to stay calm, I explained to the officer that I need to collect the lady's information so I can get my car repaired. He tells me to get it from the police report. I ask is it free, and he tells me I have to pay for it. (I'm already broke, super pissed and I can get this info for free right now) The officer threatens me again, so I get in my shredded car and speed off.

At this point I own a work uniform, a destroyed car that I just paid off, and a truck that I can't legally drive. Not to mention a $500 ticket that I am unable and unwilling to pay. Its cool, I took my plates off the Grand Am and put them on the truck that I was driving anyway. I went to the police station, reported the officer from the accident and asked what it would cost if I provided proof of insurance. -$24 court cost.

-I know what, I'll make a card...) I knew 1 of 2 things would happen. I would get off scott-free or be arrested for false-documentation. I figured, what did I have to lose? So I wait till my off day, and tell my supervisor of my plans. Letting him know that I may get arrested, hopefully ensuring that I may still have a job when I get out.

I hopped into my non-registered truck, no insurance, wrong plates, and my home-made insurance card. Went to the police station and inside to the cashier. I presented my false document. She examines it, and then compares it to another document that she had. Then she says, "24 dollars". With a smile on my face I pay the lady, get my receipt and leave..

The feeling that came over me was indescribable. Felt powerful, happy, alive, victorious, free, awake, and a huge sense of accomplishment. Finally, after years of being harassed by officers I was able to get over in a major way.

The moral of the story. . . You know, when I was a kid growing up, I got harassed and beaten up my classmates on a daily basis. I learned something from that experience. If you don't fight back, you will continue to get beat on. Am I saying break the law? No.. Should you do what I did? Probably not. Am I proud of what I did, hell yeah. Would I do it again if I needed to, of course.

This life is a very interesting one.. If you want something bad enough, you work at it and eventually it becomes reality. Is that not creating your own reality? Why should there be some people have everything, and some people starve or can't even walk down the street? You can choose to accept the things in your life and hope that it will change, or you can do something to change it.

Once you leave this world, nothing that happens here will matter to you anymore anyway. So why not see what this world has to offer. The ones that make the rule for us and control our reality, live above the law. Am I interested in interfering with them? Not really.. But I can help but wonder how can a hand-full of people can control billions of people? Maybe if the population hand more control of things, there would be more balance in everything.

They way things are going now are obsolete and will no-longer be able to maintain a forever evolving intelligent conscious awaken people.. So challenge authority,(in legal ways) yourself, and everything else. It is crucial to and necessary for your personal evolution. This letter is a piece of me that is now a part of you. It is up to you what you want to do with it,.. (^_O)
